A field of 12 fillies will vie for a spot in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Del Mar in the 1 1/16-mile Miss Grillo Stakes (G2T) Oct. 4 at Belmont at the Big A—a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series event, which offers an automatic berth to the Juvenile Fillies Turf Oct. 31.
Godolphin's Quiet Street, the lone stakes winner in the field, heads the charge. The daughter of Street Boss won the $996,650 Untapable Stakes by 1 length Sept. 7 at Kentucky Downs over stakes winner Snow Face Princess. Believe in Magic was another half-length back in third.
Quiet Street broke her maiden on debut at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 13, prevailing by a neck in the maiden special weight race.
Godolphin has also entered Rose Room, who ran a game fourth in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes. The top four fillies were just heads apart at the finish. Rose Room is cross-entered in the Oct. 3 Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland.
"She was getting there, but not quite in time," Stidham said. "We were really pleased with her. I was surprised to see her that far back, but that Kentucky Downs course can confuse horses, especially a 2-year-old that had only run one time. Florent (Geroux) said that she was kind of switching leads back and forth and he thought best to let her get her feet under her and ask her to make a move when they straightened up. It almost worked."
Klaravich Stables' Deep Learning will look to rebound off a fifth-place finish in the Natalma Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine Sept. 13. The daughter of Cairo Prince broke her maiden by 3 1/4 lengths over the summer at Saratoga in a maiden special weight race, going 1 1/16 miles over the turf.
Lanni Bloodstock and Madaket Stables' stakes-placed Dyna sits on the also-eligible list, hoping for a chance to make the Breeders' Cup. She recently ran third in the Catch A Glimpse Stakes Aug. 16 at Woodbine. The well-bred Quality Road filly is out of the multiple graded stakes-winning mare Social Queen.
"Obviously she's a nice filly that we think highly of. She was supposed to run in the Natalma and we had to scratch her—she spiked a bit of a fever so we wanted to play the side of caution," trainer Kevin Attard said. "The horse that beat us in the Catch A Glimpse came back and won the Natalma, so that's part of the reason we're encouraged to try New York with her. I think coming to a two-turn track now for her will be beneficial as well."
Prior to that, the filly had ran second against males in a maiden special weight where she lost by a nose. Dyna is also an AE for the Jessamine.
