On November 1, the community is invited to attend a free open house hosted by one of Indiana's leading stallion farms, Breakway Farm, LLC. The open house will give guests the chance to tour the foaling and breeding facilities and partake in a seminar on the "Life of a Racehorse From Start to Finish" to show the care and skills that it takes to foal, train and race a Thoroughbred, as well as cover aftercare.

The open house will also serve as a food drive for His Hands Ministry, a local group serving the community, and will offer giveaways and refreshments.

A full-service Thoroughbred farm, the farm recently announced that the 2019 Eclipse Award Champion 3 Year Old Colt, Maximum Security will be joining the roster, joining perennial top Indiana stallions such as Unbridled Express, Charming Kitten and Forever d'Oro. A stallion showcase will be held after the open house concludes, giving prospective breeders an opportunity to see the stallions up close and personal.

"This is the best time to welcome the public to our farm, and we're excited about being the new home to Maximum Security," says Jordan. "His bloodlines will bring in a good mix for the mares in Indiana."

Breakway Farm is based in Dillsboro, Indiana, run by mother-daughter team Janice Jordan and Tara Mathias. Conveniently located near Horseshoe Indianapolis, Turfway Park, Belterra Park, and Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky, Breakway Farm is ideally situated for racehorse breeders and owners. The farm offers a full suite of services, including breeding, foaling, layups, boarding, and sales preparation. Their growing stallion roster has consistently ranked in Indiana's Top 10 for progeny earnings, and many stakes winners have been bred and foaled at Breakway Farm, reflecting their dedication and expertise.

"Hosting this open house is our way to not only welcome our community into our barn, but to also help share the work that we do and how important horse racing is to Indiana and our economy," says Jordan.

An economic impact analysis by Purdue University in 2021 shows that the total economic footprint of the Indiana horse racing and breeding industry was nearly $2 billion, an increase from the 2010 study at $1 billion. The report also noted that between 2007 and 2020, a 59% increase in horses owned, trained, or bred in Indiana.

According to a report by the American Horse Council, the horse industry supports more than 1.7 million jobs in the U.S. alone. These jobs extend beyond racing, with horse-related businesses spanning tourism, hospitality, media, and marketing. It is because of this impact that the rural areas around the two Indiana tracks in Shelbyville and Anderson have seen an increase in horse farms and employment opportunities.

"The impact of horse racing in Indiana continues to grow," says Mathias. "Horse racing is a family business, especially in this state. My mom and I have worked together for years to grow this farm, and my daughter has already been a very big part of what we do here at Breakway."
