TERF Awards $7,100 Grant to National Museum of Racing

'Equine Eyes' gives an immersive visual and sensory perspective of equine vision.

The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award $7,100 to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame to be used for enhancing education.

"We are grateful for TERF's funding in support of "Equine Eyes," said Cate Masterson, Director, National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. "Equine Eyes allows for a truly interactive experience with a wearable headset that simulates how horses see the world, developed by Dr. Alan Hook of Ulster University. This specially developed headset with mounted cameras provides visitors with an immersive visual and sensory perspective of equine vision. This technology shows differences in depth perception, color spectrum, and motion sensitivity as compared to human vision, offering a deeper understanding of how horses navigate their environment. The exhibit is rooted in extensive research by Dr. Hook and aims to foster empathy, safety, awareness, and interspecies connection."

In alignment with their mission to support and promote equine education by supporting organizations that are educating the public on the proper care of horses, TERF continues to offer its financial assistance in 2025. As the museum changes with the times, it continues to be a dynamic and integral part of the vibrant game it celebrates. Its core mission—to chronicle and promote the rich history of one of America's most spectacular sporting pastimes through educational experiences continues to inspire racing fans and cultivate new ones.

TERF's grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. TERF's current Board includes Co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM, and James Orsini, DVM, Lynne Cassimeris, Ph.D., Margaret Duprey, Roy Jackson, Katelyn Jackson, Ellen Moelis, Cory Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Scott Palmer, VMD, Will Phipps, and Josh Pons.
