Kentucky-based trainer Brad Cox finished atop the North American earnings list for a third time in 2025.
In securing his first earnings title since 2023, Cox was the lone conditioner based in the United States to surpass the $30 million threshold at $30,255,435. When earnings secured from Dubai World Cup day and Saudi Cup day are included, Cox finishes on top at $37,255,435 behind Hit Show's upset victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1).
Cox secured 277 wins from 394 starters making 1,068 starts in 2025 as he registered a win rate of 26% and 58% win-place-show rate.
North American grade 1 winners for Cox in 2025 included Tappan Street in the Florida Derby (G1), Good Cheer in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Patch Adams in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1), and Fionn in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T).
Rounding out the top 10 trainers by earnings in 2025 are Steve Asmussen, $24,945,605 (331 wins/603 starters/2,275 starts); Chad Brown $24,487,934 (203/342/887); Mark Casse, $23,216,251 (237/392/1,486); Todd Pletcher, $19,187,793 (142/273/729); Bill Mott, $17,165,020 (106/197/662); Saffie Joseph Jr., $17,032,668 (219/324/1,087); Michael Maker, $16,768,187 (206/334/1,143); Brendan Walsh, $15,611,634 (133/261/757); and Bob Baffert, $14,366,800 (103/109/338).
Behind his 331 wins in 2025, Hall of Famer Asmussen upped his record career win total to 11,084. The first trainer to surpass 11,000 career wins finished second in wins in 2025 behind Jamie Ness. Asmussen led North America in starts at 2,275 from a continent-leading 603 starters. Asmussen runners captured a dozen graded stakes, including Magnitude claiming victories in the Risen Star and Clark (both G2) stakes.
It's the second time Ness has led North America in wins and the first time since 2012. He had finished in the top three in wins each season since 2021. Ness-trained horses won 353 races from 1,415 starts and earned $11,038,877 in 2025. Leading the way for Ness with nearly $200,000 in purse earnings in 2025 was Concrete Faze, a multiple allowance race winner in the Mid-Atlantic region.
In other 2025 stats of interest, Anthony Adamo ranked first in win percentage for trainers with at least 100 starts. He registered 38 wins from 101 starts, good for a 38% win rate. A top horse in 2025 for Adamo, who saddled horses at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort, Woodbine, and Fort Erie, was Garnet and Gold, a multiple winner at the allowance level.
Southern California-based Hall of Fame trainer Baffert led all conditioners with at least 100 starts in earnings per start in 2025 at $42,505 as his horses won 103 races from 338 starts and earned more than $14 million. Baffert runners captured 10 grade 1 races in 2025, including Splendora in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) and Nysos in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1).
Among trainers with at least 100 starts, Northwest-based Lyle Magnuson led all conditioners by percentage in the money (win, place, or show) at 77%.
