ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption and After the Finish Line's Kentucky Derby Charity Moneigh Auction starts Sunday, April 19 and ends Sunday, April 26 at 6p PT/9p ET. Most of the original Moneighs were painted by elite stallions and a broodmare that raced in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and/or Belmont Stakes. Also included are pony horses that accompany them on the racetrack. Proceeds benefit Off Track Thoroughbreds. Bid, ebay.com/str/rerunthoroughbred.
A total of fourteen original Moneighs are up for bid. The artists include Serena's Song, Curlin, Enticed, Essential Quality, Good Magic, Harley, Smokey, Flightline, Wicked Strong, Soul of the Matter, Street Sense, Tapit, War of Will, and Lemon Drop Kid.
Moneighs are abstract artwork created by Thoroughbreds using their lips, muzzle, hoof, and/or whiskers. The name is derived from the artist, Monet, and the neigh of a horse. Moneigh is a registered trademark of ReRun, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rehabilitates and retrains Off Track Thoroughbreds for adoption in New York. In partnership with After the Finish Line, a California Off Track Thoroughbred 501(c)(3) charity that awards grants, we paint with the premier stallions and broodmares in Kentucky to create sought after original paintings, and prints that are auctioned or sold to benefit both organizations.
"Racing fans can bid on their favorite Thoroughbreds they once followed on the racetrack. Moneighs are a way to connect with the legends of horse racing, said Dawn Mellen, President of After the Finish Line. "This collaboration between charities means proceeds will help more Off Track Thoroughbreds in need. The Moneighs are back with a fresh new look and exciting new stallion, broodmare and pony horse artists for racing fans", said Lisa Molloy, Executive Director of ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption.
