Kappa Kappa, winner of the 2025 Lexus Raven Run (G2), bolstered her resume when named 2025 Pennsylvania-bred Horse of the Year, as well as champion 3-year-old filly and female sprinter, at the May 8 Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association's 47th annual Iroquois Awards.
Racing in 2025 for LC Racing LLC, Cash is King LLC, and trainer Butch Reid's Wellesley Stable, Kappa Kappa won three of five starts during her 3-year-old season. The chestnut daughter of Omaha Beach kicked off her racing career with a dominant 9 3/4 length frontrunning maiden victory at Parx Racing on July 24. After a runner-up effort in allowance company around two turns, Kappa Kappa cut back to sprint distances and romped by 6 lengths in an allowance event on Pennsylvania's Day at the Races, clocking 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.87 at Parx.
Venturing outside of her home base of Parx Racing, Kappa Kappa drew in off the also-eligible list for the $400,000 Lexus Raven Run(G2) at Keeneland on October 18. Sent off as the second longest shot in the field at odds of 27-1, the filly sped to the front and refused to give in, battling back in the stretch to win by a head in the 7-furlong contest.
Kappa Kappa was bred by Darryl & Jill Myers's Stone Jug Ranch in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania. She was purchased for $65,000 by Glenn Bennett's LC Racing at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale.
The Iroquois Awards were held May 8 at The Inn at Mendenhall in Chadds Ford. The evening's guest speaker was Larry Collmus, voice of NBC Sports' racing coverage and track announcer at Del Mar Racing. Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award was Rick Abbott, whose many contributions to Thoroughbred racing included his Charlton Bloodstock Agency, Inc.
