Three-year-old filly Natural Fling will be placed in the deep end Sept. 5 when she takes on her elders in the Moir Stakes (G1) over 1,000 meters (about 5 furlongs) at Sandown Racecourse.
The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained daughter of Home Affairs landed the Quezette Stakes (G3) at 1,100 meters (about 5 1/2 furlongs) in her opening start as a 3-year-old, and will have just 50 kilograms (110 pounds) to carry in this weekend's weight-for-age group 1 under Jamie Melham.
"We've rated her highly right from the first time we put a saddle on her," Tony McEvoy said. "I don't think we would be going to this race if she hadn't already got the 'black type' under the belt, but now that she has, and the market is saying it, it's not a silly thing to do. And it will be a big test for her, but I'm excited about it. With 50 kilos and to be able to have a Jamie Melham to ride at 50, is very comforting."
One of her top competitors will be Geegees Mistruth, who won the Robert Sangster Stakes (G1) at 1,200 meters (about 6 furlongs).
The only group 1 winner by former Tasmanian stallion Wordsmith, Geegees Mistruth has not raced since winning the Sangster at Morphettville Racecourse in April and heads into the 13-runner sprint following a winning Caulfield Heath jump-out Aug. 19.
Originally trained in Tasmania by Stuart Gandy, Geegees Mistruth has won once and placed four times from seven starts since joining Mark Walker.
