Sir Prancealot, currently California's sixth-leading sire this year, will move from Rancho San Miguel to Eclipse Thoroughbred Farm for the 2027 breeding season after prominent owner/breeder Nick Alexander purchased the 16-year-old Tamayuz stallion from a syndicate. Plans call for Sir Prancealot to stand for $5,000.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Farm near Buellton, Calif., is close to where Alexander boards his mares at his Santa Ynez farm. Alexander also has stallions already at Eclipse Thoroughbred Farm in Grazen and Tough Sunday, according to Eclipse Thoroughbred Farm co-owner Mike Scully.
Other stallions standing at Eclipse include Storm the Court, Stanford, and Smooth Like Strait.
A group winner in England, Sir Prancealot has sired 23 stakes winners from 11 crops of racing age, with his progeny earning more than $30.8 million, including those abroad and in the United States. His top domestic performers include Beau Recall, a millionaire and winner of the 2019-20 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes (G2T), and Lady Prancealot, who took the 2019 American Oaks (G1T) and made $740,841.
Some of his top-performing current progeny include Prince Dolce, Steak Fries, Pure Chaos, and Pure Madness.
"He breeds some precocious horses and mostly turf horses," Scully said, adding that he's also had some success with dirt runners.
Jay Em Ess Stable and Brian Koriner's stakes-placed Pure Madness, a dual winner on both turf and dirt, is one such example.
Scully said he plans to discuss with Alexander incentive options to help promote Sir Prancealot in 2027.
