The connections of the top two finishers in the featured race Feb. 17 at Oaklawn Park each saw a result their horses could build on this season.
In a field reduced to four runners after scratches, Peggy Thompson's Edge to Edge posted a second straight gate-to-wire victory in an allowance-level race at Oaklawn as the 5-year-old son of Competitive Edge appears poised for the first stakes try of his career.
Meanwhile C Z Rocket delivered a solid effort in his 9-year-old season debut and first race since finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) Nov. 5 at Keeneland. While the veteran son of City Zip did not seriously challenge the loose-on-the-lead winner, he did track comfortably from second throughout and continued well to the finish. C Z Rocket, who is campaigned by his trainer Peter Miller, Madaket Stables, Gary Barber, and Tom Kagele, also finished second in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland.
Guided by Francisco Arrieta and trained by Chris Hartman, Edge to Edge broke well to open a clear advantage through a quarter-mile in :23.37. Sent off as the even-money favorite, he maintained that clear advantage at every point of call on his way to completing six furlongs in 1:09.65 on the fast track.
Bred in Kentucky by Yeamans Racing Stable, Edge to Edge has won six of 24 starts and has earned $377,385.
