John and Diane Fradkin's homebred stallion Rombauer , a millionaire and winner of 2021 Preakness Stakes (G1), will shuttle to Haras Porta Pia in Chile. The deal was brokered by Matt Bowling of Bowling Bloodstock and J.P. Sullivan of Sullivan Bloodstock.

Rombauer, a 6-year-old son of Twirling Candy , stood his first season this year at War Horse Place near Lexington for $6,000.

The Fradkins bred Rombauer out of the Cowboy Cal mare Cashmere, who is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winners California Flag and Cambiocorsa. California Flag won five graded stakes, including a track-record performance in the 2008 Morvich Handicap (G3T). He also won the 2009 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, then a listed stakes.

Twirling Candy is a top 15 sire this year and has sired 21 career graded black-type winners, including grade 1 winners Concrete Rose, Pinehurst , and Gift Box . He is a son of 2003 Argentina champion miler Candy Ride , who also set a track record (1:59.11) in the 2003 Pacific Classic Stakes (G1).

Rombauer won on debut as a 2-year-old and was runner-up in 2020 American Pharoah Stakes (G1). At 3, he won the El Camino Real Derby for trainer Michael McCarthy and finished third in the Bluegrass Stakes (G2) before winning the Preakness. He would run third in the Belmont Stakes (G1) and retire with a 3-1-2 record in eight starts and $1,040,500 in earnings.
