No Changes Atop Latest NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll

Voters appear in wait-and-see mode with the Breeders' Cup more than two weeks away.

There were slight changes in the rankings among the top 10 in this week's National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Top Thoroughbred poll released Oct. 16.

With little more than two weeks until the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar, voters appear in wait-and-see mode.

Fierceness maintains his hold on the top spot. Despite losing six points in the standings, he grew his lead over filly Thorpedo Anna from four to six points.

Trailing Thorpedo Anna is last year's champion older dirt female Idiomatic and both will likely clash in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) in what should amount to a heavyweight battle. They are the only females in this week's rankings. Another Distaff contender, the Chad Brown-trained Raging Sea, lurks just outside the top 10.

While the top five held their positions, spots seven through 10 from a week ago all moved up one place, while Subsanador dropped to No. 10 despite having won his last two starts. His drop is likely a result of the recent news that he will miss the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) because of an ankle injury following the California Crown Stakes (G1).

Highland Falls, Carl Spackler, Preaknesss Stakes (G1) victor Seize the Grey, and Nest filled spots five through nine.
