Residents of Grantville, Pa. will not be ringing in the New Year by watching live horse racing as high winds have led Penn National Race Course to cancel its Jan. 1 card.
A post on the track's X account cited wind speeds and gusts of around 40 miles per hour throughout the evening as the cause for the cancellation of their eight-race card that was set to begin at 4 p.m. ET. Live racing is set to resume Jan. 2 with first post at 6:15 p.m.
About 100 miles to the east, Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pa., canceled the final five races of their 10-race Wednesday card due to high winds.
High winds also led the New York Racing Association to accelerate post times while racing continued at Aqueduct Racetrack.
