Yearlings by second-crop sire Tiz the Law  were in high demand during the third day of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale Jan. 15. Not only did he achieve the highest-priced short yearling colt and filly, he also finished the day as the leading sire of yearlings for the sale's third and final session.

Hip 912, a colt out of the Distorted Humor mare Wahgah, sold for $160,000 to NAJD Stud from the Hunter Valley Farm consignment. He was bred in Kentucky by Newstead.

NAJD Stud, the Saudi Arabian breeding and racing operation of Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, purchased four head for a total of $202,000 to become the leading buyer of the third session. Overall, NAJD Stud purchased 17 horses for a total of $696,000, as the sales fourth-leading buyer. Of those 17, three were colts by Tiz the Law. The entity purchased Hip 478 ($17,000) from the Clarkland Farm consignment, a colt out of Underestimate, who is a half sister to stakes winner Itsmyluckycharm and hails from the family of grade 1 winner Albert the Great. NAJD Stud also purchased Hip 543, a colt out of the Into Mischief  mare Bean Counter from the Buckland Sales consignment for $21,000.

Hip 951, a filly out of the stakes-producing Empire Maker mare Assured, fetched $110,000, selling to Dixiana Farm. She was bred in New York by 3C Stables, and comes from the immediate family of grade 1 winners Sleep Easy and Slumber .

"She's a good-sized filly, and that's what buyers are looking for," said Martha Jane Mulholland of Mulholland Springs, who consigned the filly. "This is a New York-bred filly, and I love the New York program. Obviously, the Tiz the Law foals have run great and excited everybody."

"It's always up and down," said Mulholland of the market at the January Sale. "They want big, robust, mature horses. You have to bring exactly what they want."

Mulholland Springs finished the third session as the third-leading consignor, with six head sold for a total of $330,000.

Tiz the Law had eight yearlings sell over the course of the January Sale for $439,000, with an average of $54,875.

The multiple grade 1-winning son of Constitution  finished a close third on the first-crop sire list in 2024 behind Vekoma  and McKinzie . His chief earner was Tiztastic, who earned $819,800 thanks to a stakes win and two graded stakes placings.
