Breeders' Cup Late Foal Nomination Deadline Feb. 28

The fee will increase to $12,000 after Feb. 28.

Anne M. Eberhardt

Friday, February 28 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the last opportunity to nominate foals born in 2024 to the Breeders' Cup program for a one-time late nomination fee of US$1,500.

This $1,500 nomination entitles each foal to lifetime eligibility to the Breeders' Cup World Championships and the Breeders' Cup racing programs. All foals sired by a fully nominated North American Breeders' Cup stallion are eligible for nomination to the Breeders' Cup program in their year of birth and up to Feb. 28 of their yearling year.

Nomination fees for 2024 foals not nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by February 28 will be increased to US$12,000 for horses sired by a Breeders' Cup-nominated stallion and to US$18,000 for horses sired by a non-nominated stallion before July 15 of the horse's 2-year-old year. After July 15 of their 2-year-old year, racehorse nomination fees increase substantially.

Breeders' Cup foal nominators will earn $10,000 for every victory in the worldwide Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win and You're In, and every horse that starts in a Breeders' Cup World Championship race will earn a nominator award. The individual nominating the foal receives these nominator awards even though the horse may change hands throughout its racing career.

Anyone that purchased a 2024 foal that wasn't nominated prior to the October 15 deadline can now take advantage of this limited time opportunity and become the foal nominator of record for the horse's racing career, over $1 million is paid out annually in foal nominator awards.
