Multiple graded stakes winner and expatriate stallion Prospective died Jan. 16, according to Korea Racing Authority records. The son of Malibu Moon was 16.

Bred by Spendthrift Farm, Prospective was the first foal produced by the Awesome Again stakes winner Spirited Away. He would sell for $250,000 during Fasig-Tipton's 2010 The Saratoga Sale to trainer Mark Casse, who bought him on behalf of owner John C. Oxley.

Prospective won the Grey Stakes (G3) at 2 and went on at 3 to win the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and the Ohio Derby (G3). He was retired with a 7-2-1 record from 17 starts and earned $719,130.

As a stallion, he began his stud career at Ocala Stud in Central Florida where he stood for six seasons. He ranked among Florida's top four freshman sires in 2017 and ranked in the top 25 nationally. He went on to sire eight black-type winners led by 2024 True North Stakes (G2) winner Baby Yoda, who was also second in the 2021 Malibu Stakes (G1), and most recently Roll On Big Joe, who won the Feb. 15 Palos Verdes Stakes (G3).

Prospective was relocated to South Korea in 2020. For his career to date, he has sired 108 winners from 134 starters. His progeny have collectively earned more than $10.4 million.
