Saying, "Mother Nature continues to win," Oaklawn Park canceled racing Feb. 22. Saturday's cancellation came after the Hot Springs, Ark., track postponed racing Feb. 21 following harsh winter weather in the area.
Oaklawn had hoped to contest its three scheduled cards this week, delaying them a day apiece on its schedule, but a resumption of racing by Saturday will not occur. Training has also been scrapped in recent days.
The $1.25 million Rebel Stakes (G2) and the full Feb. 23 card are scheduled to be run Sunday amid milder temperatures, as is the one Feb. 24. The Rebel was originally scheduled for Saturday.
Temperatures began to inch above freezing late Friday afternoon in Hot Springs with a high of 35 degrees. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing again overnight.
Thawing conditions can present challenges for track maintenance.
