Multiple grade 1 winner and first-crop sire Code of Honor registered his first winner posthumously when his daughter Code of Valor won her debut April 10 at Turf Paradise.
Code of Honor, a former Lane's End stallion, died in December 2022 after a bout with colic. He stood at the farm near Versailles, Ky., for one season.
Code of Valor, a 2-year-old filly trained by Frank Lucarelli, bested a field of 10 Thursday in a $21,000 trial for the Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity.
Code of Valor broke like a rocket from post 6 and got over to the rail just after the start. She held the lead early, was passed as the field entered the far turn, then was eased out in the stretch under a confident ride from Isaias Enriquez. Code of Valor won by 1 1/4 lengths under light hand urging, stopping the timer for 4 1/2 furlongs in :51.99 on a dirt track rated fast.
Code of Valor was bred in Washington by Chad Christensen and is owned by Josh McKee. She is the first foal out of the winning Grazen mare Grazen Valor and has no public auction record.
Code of Honor, a son of Noble Mission, won six graded stakes including the Travers (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) stakes in 2019. His first and only crop was conceived on a $10,000 stud fee and produced 65 live foals.
