Last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T) winner Cy Fair will skip the King Charles III Stakes (G1) June 16 during the Royal Ascot meet in England, according to trainer George Weaver, abandoning the original plans announced last month. The winner of the King Charles earns an automatic berth into the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) this fall at Keeneland.
Cy Fair is owned by Medallion Racing, Swinbank Stables, Joey Platts, and Mark Stanton.
Medallion Racing posted on X stating, "We have made the decision to skip Royal Ascot with Cy Fair. George felt like she wasn't acting her usual self the past few days.
Medallion Racing also shared, "She is completely sound and hopefully will be back on the work tab in the next week or two."
The 3-year-old daughter of Not This Time has never finished off the board in six lifetime starts. In her first start of the year, she finished third by less than 1 length in the Limestone Stakes (G3T) April 10 at Keeneland to Slay the Day. She returned April 30 to best Slay the Day by a length in the Mamzelle Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs. The form in the Mamzelle got a considerable boost when Slay the Day in her next start easily captured the Soaring Softly Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course by 2 3/4 lengths.
