Donegal Racing's stakes winner A.P. Kid was euthanized June 27 after suffering an irreparable fracture during a workout over the Oklahoma Turf Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Daily Racing Form, which first reported the news June 30, quoted trainer Todd Pletcher as saying that A. P. Kid had just entered the stretch when he "took a funny step switching leads," which caused the fatal injury.

Pletcher told DRF, "He was a promising colt. It's very unfortunate." He added that A. P. Kid had been working towards a possible start in the $750,000 Belmont Derby Invitational (G1T) during the July 4th Racing Festival at Saratoga.

A.P. Kid was out of the War Front  mare Lady Mamba, who was a $1 million yearling purchase at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He posted a 2 1/2-length maiden victory in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight over the turf at Gulfstream Park in his second start March 22, and followed that with a dominating 6 1/4-length victory in the off-the-turf Pennine Ridge Stakes June 7, going one mile at Saratoga Race Course

He was bred in Kentucky by Parks Investment Group and purchased by Donegal Racing for $275,000 from the Lane's End consignment at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The ridgling son of Honor A.P. won two of his three starts, earning $207,700.
