There were three graded stakes run in North America Oct. 11, and if trainer Miguel Clement had an entry in all three, maybe he would have won them all.
Alas, Clement was not in Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, but perhaps he wished he had taken a shot. Shortly after he won the Glen Cove Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack with Love Cervere, Clement trainees ran 1-2 in the $107,544 Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3) at Woodbine.
The six-furlong race on Woodbine's synthetic main track drew a field of nine fillies and mares. Clement had the clear favorite in Gal in a Rush, winner of the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2) in her most recent start for owners West Point Thoroughbreds, Chris Larsen, and Titletown Racing Stables.
But it was his second entry, the French import Les Reys, who scored the 3/4-length victory.
Les Reys, also owned by West Point but with different partners—Peter Leidle and Winters Equine—broke sharply from the rail under rider Rafael Hernandez and saved ground just behind the leaders. The 4-year-old filly found room in the lane and got the jump on Gal in a Rush, who had to rally four-wide on the far turn from seventh place.
Les Rey took over and held for the win over her fast-closing stablemate. It was another two lengths back to Nathan McCauley's Girl of My Dreams, who earned her first graded placing, in third. Les Reys stopped the clock in 1:10.42.
