Breakway Farm announced Nov. 20 that Bango , a multiple stakes winner and the winningest horse in Churchill Downs history, will stand at the Indiana farm in 2026 for a fee of $2,500.
The 8-year-old son of Congrats was retired in early November after a career that saw him earn 12 wins at the historic Louisville, Ky., oval, including six stakes wins. His best season came in 2023 when he won or placed in all seven starts, including victories in the St. Matthews Overnight, Kelly's Landing, and Louisville Thoroughbred Society stakes, as well as a narrow third-place finish in the Phoenix Stakes (G2) at Keeneland.
In total, Bango registered a 15-4-5 record in 42 starts for earnings of $1,644,979 in his career that spanned seven seasons. Nicknamed "Mr. Churchill Downs," Bango was campaigned trainer Greg Foley for his breeder, Tamaroak Stable.
Bred in Kentucky out of the winning Smart Strike mare Josaka, Bango descends from blue hen Up the Flagpole—his fourth dam—with grade 1 winner and sire Mineshaft, and graded winners and producers Runup the Colors, Prospectors Delite, and Tomisue's Delight in his female family.
Bango is one of several additions to the Breakway roster for 2026. He joins fellow incoming stallion Bolzy , a grade 2-placed son of Gun Runner who will stand for $3,000, and multiple grade 1 winner Maximum Security , who was relocated to Breakway from Kentucky for the 2026 season.
