With inclement weather expected to hit the Mid-Atlantic region beginning later tonight, and with the potential for rain throughout the Memorial Day Weekend, Monmouth Park has moved the Cliff Hanger Stakes, scheduled for May 23, and the Miss Liberty Stakes, originally set for May 24, to next Saturday, May 30, when both races will be joined by the already-scheduled Jersey Derby.
"It's unfortunate, but the present forecast looks like a washout for turf racing this weekend," said John Heims, General Manager at Monmouth. "We'll now pivot to putting on three turf stakes for the May 30 card and, pending approval from the New Jersey Racing Commission, those three races will debut the new all-turf pick three."
The Monmouth $3 All-Turf Pick 3 features a 15% takeout covering the final three turf races on the racing program.
The Cliff Hanger, at a mile and a sixteenth, offers the winner free entry into the Grade 2, $500,00 United Nations Stakes, while the Miss Liberty Stakes, also at a mile and a sixteenth, has a free berth to the $300,000, Grade 2WinStar Matchmaker Stakes. Both the United Nations and WinStar Matchmaker are supporting stakes on the July 18 NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes card.
