At the Board of Directors' meeting held Thursday, July 9, at the Maryland Horse Breeders Association's office in Reisterstown, the new board re-elected Richard F. Blue as president, Josh Pons as vice president, and Michael Horning as secretary/treasurer.
Richard F. Blue Jr.—Owner of Blue & Obrecht Realty LLC and a resident of Baltimore County, Blue first served on the board in 2001. Blue was first elected MHBA president in 2021. This will be Blue's second consecutive year as MHBA president.
Josh Pons—A past-president of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Pons owns Country Life Farm in Bel Air and Merryland Farm in Hydes, Md., with his brother Mike. They stand stallions and operate racing and breeding partnerships.
Michael Horning—A retired insurance executive, Horning's family has been actively involved in breeding and racing horses in Maryland for over 50 years. First selected to the MHBA Board of Directors in 2018, he was previously Secretary-Treasurer in 2021 and 2022. He has bred and owned numerous Maryland-bred stakes winners with his wife, Debbie.
The MHBA Board includes Brooke Bowman, Jane Allen, Alice Edwards, Charles Fenwick Jr., Lisa Golden Hofstetter, Christine Holden, Grace Merryman, Michael J. Harrison DVM,Garrett Murray, Kent Allen Murray, Phil Schoenthal and David Wade.
