Liam's Law became the first winner for Ocala Stud's multiple grade 1 winner and freshman sire Colonel Liam after breaking his maiden July 12 in a maiden special weight race over the turf at Saratoga Race Course.
Robert and Lawana Low, who campaigned Colonel Liam, purchased Liam's Law for $120,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training from the Ocala Stud consignment. The colt breezed a quarter-mile during the under-tack show in :21 2/5.
Fourth in his first start over the dirt, Liam's Law took to the turf Sunday, much like his sire, to win the 1 1/16-mile race by 1 1/4 lengths. He brushed the gate at the start, but under a confident Flavien Prat, Liam's Law soon found his way to the front, leading the pack through opening fractions of :24.27, :48.90, and 1:13.51. The final time was 1:42.74. He paid $6.20 to win.
Liam's Law was bred in Florida by Ocala Stud out of the winning Kitten Joy's mare Quickasakitten. She is the dam of three other horses of racing age, two of them are winners.
Colonel Liam won back-to-back runnings of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1T) at Gulfstream Park in 2021-22. His other grade 1 win came in the 2021 Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) at Churchill Downs. He retired with seven wins from 12 career starts, earning $1,812,565.
The Laws also purchased Colonel Liam as a 2-year-old, for a much heftier price of $1.2 million, after breezing a swift quarter-mile in :20 4/5 during the under-tack show for the 2019 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
He stood the 2026 season at Ocala Stud for an advertised fee of $6,500.
