Grade 1-placed, graded winner and expatriate stallion Mutasaabeq sired his first winner when his gelded son Johnny G became a winner in his second career start July 22 at Delaware Park.
John Guarnere bred Johnny G in Florida out of the winning Courageous Cat mare Codrington. The gelding is her first foal to race. Codrington is out of the stakes-placed Fappie's Notebook daughter Notacharlie'sangel, who is the dam of five other winners including New York stakes-placed winner Barrage (War Dancer ).
Johnny G now races for Guarnere's Imaginary Stables with trainer Andrew Simoff. The gelding made his first win a convincing one, running the 5 furlongs gate to wire and winning by 3 1/4 lengths. The final time was :59.54.
Mutasaabeq is a son of Into Mischief who Shadwell Estate bought as a weanling for $425,000 during the 2018 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. For Shadwell and trainer Todd Pletcher, Mutasaabeq had his best racing season at 2 when he won the Bourbon Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland and earlier ran third in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. He made only one start at 3, but it resulted in a victory in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
As a stallion, Mutasaabeq started out his stud career in 2023-24 at Pleasant Acres Stallions near Ocala, Fla. He was then relocated to Haras La Pasion in Argentina.
