Ellen Epstein's Cajun Caviar improved to 2-for-2 by capturing the Louisiana Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes Sept. 19 at Louisiana Downs, becoming the first stakes winner for her sire No Parole.
The 2-year-old filly set a pressured pace in the $75,000 race before opening up on fellow Louisiana-breds to score by 2 3/4 lengths over runner-up Nola Queen. Bar Car was third.
Cajun Caviar ran 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:05.22 under Casey Fusilier after setting fractions of :22.59 and :45.78. The Allen Landry trainee paid $4 to win as the favorite.
Epstein and Lynne Boutte bred the winner out of the winning Custom for Carlos mare Clearly Sailing.
Cajun Caviar went through the Texas Thoroughbred Association 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale consigned by Boutte Sales, where Landry signed for her purchase as agent for $18,000.
Second-crop sire No Parole, also bred in Louisiana, scored his biggest career victory when he captured the 2020 Woody Stephens Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. A son of Violence , he retired with six wins from 13 starts and $369,866 in earnings for trainer Tom Amoss.
No Parole was purchased for $75,000 as a yearling by owner Maggi Moss from the consignment of Select Sales as agent for breeder Coteau Grove Farms at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Greg Tramontin purchased an ownership interest in the horse early during his racing career.
No Parole entered stud in 2022 at Whispering Oaks Farm. He stood this past breeding season there for $2,000.
