Karl Burke has paid tribute to his stable star Fallen Angel after she suffered a fatal injury in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein (G2) Oct. 3 at ParisLongchamp Racecourse.
Fallen Angel won the 2023 Moyglare Stud Stakes (G1) at 2 and Irish One Thousand Guineas (G1) at 3 for owners Clipper Logistics before being bought by Wathnan Racing.
The daughter of Too Darn Hot racked up a group 1 hat trick last season when winning the Prix Rothschild (G1), the Matron Stakes (G1), and Sun Chariot Stakes (G1), in which she beat this year's dominant filly Blue Bolt by 2 1/4 lengths.
She had three runs this year, most notably finishing third behind Blue Bolt in the Matron, before she was pulled up after fracturing a leg in the home straight under regular rider James Doyle in the group 2 at ParisLongchamp.
Burke posted on X: "Words cannot describe how incredibly heartbroken we are at the loss of our stable star Fallen Angel.
"A five-time Group 1 winner with a huge personality and presence. She was truly loved by everyone. She will leave a massive hole at Spigot Lodge and meant so much. RIP."
Fallen Angel won £1,165,220 in prize money in her 18-race career, winning seven races and finishing in the first three on 12 occasions.
