On Oct. 9, trainer Steve Asmussen told Daily Racing Form that Spinaway Stakes (G1) winner Summer Starlet is out consideration for the Oct. 30 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) because of inflammation in a hind leg from being clipped during the runner-up finish in the Oct. 2 Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.

But the Hall of Fame trainer and his youngest son, Erik, also generated good news Friday evening, teaming up to win five races at Remington Park. They consecutively took races 5 through 8 with Oban ($3), Cant Stop Munnings ($4.40), First Player ($6), and Extra Anejo ($3.40), then the 10th and final with Pass the Roses ($6.80).

Winchell Thoroughbreds' Extra Anejo, a graded stakes-winning sprinter in 2025, notched his first 2026 victory in the eighth race, an allowance event. The Into Mischief  horse improved to 6-for-16 over his career

The elder Asmussen leads the training standings at Remington Park with 41 wins, plus the owner standings with 17 victories. Erik Asmussen leads David Cabrera in the jockey standings, 38 wins to 34.

Erik Asmussen, now a journeyman rider, won the 2024 Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice jockey.

Even without BC Stables, Wattswood Stables, Bob Albritton, Jay Graham, and David Baggett's Summer Starlet, Asmussen is expected to run horses in other Breeders' Cup races. Winchell Thoroughbreds' Magnitude is a contender for the Oct. 31 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). Kaleem Shah's Stradale could run in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) that same day.
