2018 Triple Crown winner Justify , the fifth-leading stallion in North America by progeny earnings, heads a 16-stallion roster for the 2027 breeding season at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., Coolmore America announced Oct. 21. His upcoming fee is $200,000, unchanged from 2026.
Three grade 1 winners will join the stallion barn at Ashford next season, led by Nysos at $80,000 and Journalism at $60,000. Both of them were retired earlier this year.
Another future stallion, Magnitude , will have his fee announced later. The winner of the Dubai World Cup (G1) and Stephen Foster Stakes (G1) is scheduled to contest the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) Oct. 31 at Keeneland.
"We are delighted to present our 2027 stallion roster, which combines proven quality at the highest level with an exciting intake of new talent," Charlie O'Connor, Coolmore America's director of sales, said in a release. "Nysos combined speed with remarkable consistency, Journalism brings a Classic-winning record and an outstanding physique, and Magnitude showed his quality with decisive victories in Dubai and the Stephen Foster. We're looking forward to cheering him on in the Breeders' Cup Classic before he joins us.
"Justify continues to give breeders plenty to celebrate, with grade 1 and group 1 winners from North America to Europe and Australia. We were also very encouraged by the support for Sierra Leone, Fierceness and Citizen Bull in their first season, and there's great anticipation around their first foals in the spring."
Justify, a son of Scat Daddy out of the Ghostzapper mare Stage Magic, was known for his achievements on dirt—winning the Kentucky Derby (G1), Preakness Stakes (G1), and Belmont Stakes (G1) in 2018—though his progeny's success isn't limited to one surface. His success as a sire has spread across continents, on turf as well as on dirt.
Ashford has adjusted fees to numerous stallions. Practical Joke drops from $75,000 to $55,000, Fierceness from $50,000 to $40,000, and Sierra Leone from $75,000 to $65,000. Munnings declines from $45,000 to $35,000, while Tiz the Law increases from $40,000 to $60,000. Golden Pal increases from $25,000 to $35,000.
Tiz the Law is the second on the third-crop sire list, while Golden Pal leads all first-crop sires.
"There is plenty to be excited about across the roster," Coolmore America's Adrian Wallace added. "Domestic Product's first foals have made a very positive impression ahead of the November sales, while Gunite's first yearlings have been well received throughout the fall auctions. Our four freshman sires have also made an encouraging start with their first two-year-olds on the track. Together with established sires such as Practical Joke, Tiz The Law and Munnings, they offer breeders a strong combination of quality, variety and value."
