Recent Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) winner Knightsbridge will race in the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), trainer Bill Mott said the morning of Oct. 26 at Keeneland.
Knightsbridge had also been pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) as second preference. Mott said the Classic provides an opportunity for the Godolphin homebred to display his talents.
"There was a discussion. It went back and forth, everybody had a say," Mott said. "Some points came up about how important it would be for Godolphin to win the Classic. I was going to be happy with either race. We've made our decision and we'll stick with it, win, lose, or draw."
The commitment to the Classic will give owner Godolphin and Mott two runners in the race as they also have 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner and reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty . Knightsbridge not only puts another grade 1 winner in the Classic, he also brings considerable early speed.
"He's just a naturally fast horse," Mott said. "You're not going to see us take him off the pace."
A 5-year-old son of Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist —Tyburn Brook, by Bernardini, Knightsbridge has won four of his six starts this year. His other stakes wins this year include the Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3), the Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G3), and the Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3).
The draw for all 14 Breeders' Cup races will be Monday evening at Keeneland.
