Thoroughbred Aftercare

Snellings, Maroney Join TRF Board of Directors

Both bring experience and a long-standing connection to the Thoroughbred industry.

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), the nation's oldest and largest organization dedicated to the lifetime care of retired Thoroughbreds, is pleased to welcome Elizabeth Snellings and Katharine Maroney to its Board of Directors.

Both bring valuable experience and a longstanding connection to the Thoroughbred industry, along with professional backgrounds that support TRF's mission of providing retired racehorses with dignified lifetime care.

Elizabeth Snellings brings extensive experience in Thoroughbred sales and farm operations, having held positions with WinStar Farm, Denali Stud, Indian Creek Farm and Keeneland. She holds an MBA in Equine Studies from Midway University and a degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University.

"I am honored to join the TRF Board of Directors and support its important work on behalf of retired Thoroughbreds. My career in the Thoroughbred industry has given me a deep appreciation for the care these horses require throughout their lives, and I look forward to helping advance the TRF's mission."

Katharine Maroney brings a lifelong connection to the Thoroughbred industry and a strong background in nonprofit leadership and land conservation. She served for 18 years as President of the Point Lookout Farmlife and Water Preserve Foundation and helped establish the Runnymede Sanctuary in Pennsylvania. From 2020 through 2025, she worked with Pastures of Point Lookout, which provided sanctuary to ten Thoroughbreds from the TRF.

"Having worked with Thoroughbreds from the TRF through Pastures of Point Lookout, I have seen firsthand the importance of providing these horses with a safe and permanent home. I am pleased to join the board and continue supporting the TRF's commitment to their lifetime care."

"We are pleased to welcome Elizabeth Snellings and Katharine Maroney to the TRF Board of Directors," said Maggie Sweet "Their combined experience in the Thoroughbred industry, nonprofit leadership and land conservation will be valuable as we continue our work to ensure retired Thoroughbreds receive dignified lifetime care."
