Three Chimneys Farm announced Oct. 27 that homebred Ottinho , the grade 1-performing half brother to Horse of the Year, Hall of Famer, and breed-shaping sire Gun Runner , will enter stud at Three Chimneys for the 2027 breeding season.
"Ottinho impressed us from the very beginning," trainer Chad Brown said. "He announced himself as one of my Derby horses late in his 2-year-old year. After breaking his maiden impressively at 2, we started mapping out a classic campaign. In just his fourth start, he qualified for the Derby with a runner-up performance in the Blue Grass (G1), which remains the fastest two-turn race for 3-year-olds in 2026. On the track, he reminded me of some of the best Gun Runners I've had, namely Sierra Leone and Early Voting.
"I trained his full sister Pretty Ana, who was talented in her own right. This is a family that improves with age. I feel strongly that Ottinho was going to be a grade 1 winner and develop into a top-class runner," he added.
In addition to his runner-up performance in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, Ottinho placed in the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. He had a record of 1-1-2 in five career starts.
"Ottinho has the pedigree, talent, and looks that make Three Chimneys truly believe in his prospects to be a real success at stud, and we will support him with confidence," said Gonçalo Torrealba, Three Chimneys chairman. "We invite breeders to join us by offering him at a great price."
"Ottinho is a great looking horse who has been a star since birth and will get supported by handpicked mares," said Doug Cauthen, Three Chimneys vice chairman. "He won as a 2-year-old and showed he had grade 1 talent at 3, and he was just getting good when his career was cut short due to injury."
Ottinho is by leading sire Quality Road and out of the grade 2-winning Giant's Causeway mare Quiet Giant—a half sister to Horse of the Year and champion Saint Liam. Ottinho combines bloodlines from two of the most influential stallions of the modern era. His sire, Quality Road, has established himself among North America's elite stallions, siring champions, classic winners, and numerous grade 1 winners.
Ottinho's half brother, superstar sire Gun Runner, is already in the midst of a historic run at stud. He made history with his yearling crop in 2026, siring 25 yearlings that sold for seven figures at public auction, shattering his own all-time record established a year ago when 17 of his yearlings sold for seven figures. His 25 yearlings to bring a million or more represent an incredible 32% of his yearlings sold in 2026. The 13-year-old stallion has already sired 16 grade 1 winners, including four new grade 1 winners this year.
Ottinho is available for inspection at Three Chimneys by appointment. The farm is hosting an open house from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 2-8 and invites breeders to come out and see Ottinho.
Ottinho's introductory fee has been set at $7,500 LFSN.
