Classic-winning trainer Christophe Clement has begun serving a seven-day suspension for a post-race finding of a controlled medication.

Under its resolved cases tab, the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit website notes that Clement began a seven-day suspension May 23 for an acepromazine finding in one of his horses, Mizoula, who had finished second in a March 3 maiden special weight race at Gulfstream Park.

The sanctions call for Mizoula to be disqualified from that finish and for the purse money ($13,300) to be revoked. Also Clement will be fined $1,000 and two penalty points will be imposed.

Acepromazine, sold commercially as PromAce or Aceproject, is a light sedative used in horses to enable vets or professionals to carry out routine procedures or ahead of travel. Under the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, substances in the controlled medication category have accepted uses in racehorses.

HISA provides a withdrawal time for acepromazine, which also has a screening limit in place.
