Thaddeus "Ted" Malloy, 92, of Prosperity, Pa., who earned the nickname "The Track Man" through his work on racing surfaces throughout his career, died May 17.
Malloy was a world-renowned designer of racing and training tracks whose work and expertise earned admiration throughout the industry. As a frequent consultant for tracks owned by various incarnations of The Stronach Group, he garnered that reputation by overseeing major projects, such as the 2007 installation of an all-weather surface at Santa Anita Park as well as the 2010 removal of that all-weather surface for a return to dirt there.
Among a number of projects, he also oversaw racing surface renovations at Gulfstream Park and the Palm Meadows training center in South Florida.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Malloy's family noted that he enjoyed golfing and spending time experimenting with internet recipes—sometimes good and sometimes not so good.
Malloy was the beloved husband of the late Audrey Malloy, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Marc (Kim), Mary (William), and Christine. He was the cherished grandfather of Jessica (Reba), William, Mackenzie, and Keeley, and proud great-grandfather of Karlie and Mack.
