Godolphin's Charlie Appleby-trained Pacific Avenue sustained an injury to his right foreleg on Wednesday morning during routine exercise at Saratoga Race Course and has been scratched from Saturday's Grade 1, $750,000 Saratoga Derby presented by Qatar Racing.
"Yes, it's a shame from this morning," Appleby said. "He was finishing up a routine exercise there and just when he came back to the barn, the team didn't like how he was cooling out. The vet team was there, and he went under supervision there and we sent him on to Rood & Riddle for further examination. Hopefully, they'll get to the bottom of whatever it is and what needs to be done."
A regally bred dual-winning son of perennial top global sire Dubawi and Group 1 Cheveley Park winner Lumiere, the Classic-placed gray colt was a troubled seventh last out in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby. Two back, he was third in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh.
